Brief Description

2. Interfacial and aggregation phenomena and phase transitions in soft condensed matter systems

We investigate from a computational point of view the possible phase transitions together with the corresponding phase diagrams in complex fluids. We also investigate interfacial and aggregation phenomena, pattern formation, as well as transport and rheology properties of soft condensed matter systems. Soft condensed matter is an emergent subdiscipline in physics that is intimately related to what is known as complex fluids. Soft condensed matter is about the study of coloidal systems, polymers, surfactants and fluids in which the shape of their constituent molecules have non spherical geometry and/or those in which the intermolecular interactions have non-spherical symmetry. Other important examples are biological systems like proteins, ADN, molecular motors, the cell, ion chanels, etc. To unravel the physics of these complex systems we develop different molecular dynamics and Monte Carlo algorithms specially tailored to study the properties of interest in each case.
